HD Hyundai Robotics brings an AI weld-quality system that adjusts voltage and travel speed on the fly to FABTECH
HD Hyundai Robotics said on October 7 it will run four live automation demos at FABTECH in Las Vegas (October 21-23, booth S40105). The one to watch for fabricators is ArcAdaptIQ, which monitors the weld pool in real time with vision sensors and automatically adjusts voltage, current and travel speed to keep weld quality stable as parts and conditions vary. It is also showing ArcPak, which scans the actual part with 3D structured light and generates weld paths from CAD for larger parts in high-mix, low-volume production, and ArcLift GO, a repositionable cobot welding system for tight spaces that is already in daily production at HD Hyundai's shipyards. Earlier this year the company supplied a robotic welding system to a U.S. shipyard.
What it means for manufacturers and fabricators
Part variation and fit-up are what usually break robotic welding in a high-mix shop, and these systems are built to correct for it on their own, so if you're walking FABTECH, ask how long a new part takes to set up and what happens when a joint is out of tolerance.
