Runway launches Praxis-1, an open-weight model for robot control

Runway, known for generative video, announced Praxis-1, its first open-weight “world action model” that turns large-scale video pretraining into control for physical robots. It is being tested with partners Noble Machines, Standard Bots and Ultra across different robot types, with a public open-weights release planned in the coming months. Runway’s pitch is that video-trained policies can generalize across embodiments and environments where collecting robot demos alone is too expensive.

What it means for manufacturers and fabricators

Open models that can drive arms and mobile robots matter for manufacturers: more vendors can build shop-floor automation without locking into one closed stack.
