OpenAI launches a Decisions API that answers yes/no, pick-one and score questions about 10x faster

OpenAI opened its Decisions API to all developers in public beta on October 6. Instead of writing a reply, it answers fixed questions about text or images: the probability a statement is true (say, a photo shows a crack or dent), a choice from options you set with a confidence score, or a score on a scale you define. OpenAI says it decides up to 10x faster than asking GPT-6 Luna the normal way, and it costs $0.10 per million input tokens with no charge for output. GPT-6 Luna is the only model on it for now, and OpenAI expects general availability in the coming weeks.

What it means for manufacturers and fabricators

Routing an email to the right person, flagging a damaged part in a photo or sorting an RFQ by urgency are now quick, near-free calls, so the sorting and triage that eats your office's day can run on its own, with anything low-confidence sent to a person.
