Physical Intelligence opens a Pi API beta so teams can fine-tune robot foundation models without running their own ML stack
Physical Intelligence published its Pi API beta on October 13, letting developers upload robot demonstration data, fine-tune the company's π0 and π0.5 foundation models on compute Pi manages, and run inference through a hosted gateway. Early partners span heavy machinery (an autonomous wheel loader in Utah), dual-arm manufacturing assembly, food service and agriculture; one partner, Almond, said Axol deburred spacers used in its own assembly after four days of iterating with the API. Access is waitlist-based, and Pi noted network connectivity can still be a limit for cloud-hosted inference on some sites.
What it means for manufacturers and fabricators
If you have a cell that keeps failing on the next variant, the interesting shift is that robot 'brains' are starting to ship as a service: teach with your own demos, then let the model adapt, instead of hiring a specialist to rewrite every path.
