Siemens and NVIDIA put an AI agent on production planning at Siemens' Erlangen factory

Siemens unveiled new AI tools at its Electronics Factory in Erlangen, Germany, built with NVIDIA and tested in live production. When new orders arrive, an AI agent automatically generates production scenarios that balance capacity, material availability, delivery dates and production lines, and shows planners the impact of each option. Each plan is checked in a digital twin (a virtual copy of the whole plant) before it goes live. Siemens says this agent-based planning can enable cost savings of up to 20 percent, and that training inspection cameras on AI-generated images before physical prototypes exist can cut engineering effort by up to 85 percent.

What it means for manufacturers and fabricators

Rescheduling around late steel, rush orders and shop capacity is a daily judgement call in most fab shops. An agent that lays out the options and what each one does to your delivery dates lets your PM pick the best one in minutes, and the same approach can run off a smaller shop's own job list and inventory.
